The need for honesty and transparency in thrift collection, popularly called osusu, is the focus of the current edition of TV drama series, Professor Johnbull, sponsored by national telecommunications company, Globacom.

Titled Osusu Contribution, the episode dissects the age-long traditional osusu practice through which people save money and pool resources together to expand their petty businesses with emphasis on the threat posed by fraudsters to the credibility of the savings plan.

The episode highlights the activities of Mr. Rowland (Mounago Collins Nche), a fraudster and self-styled “coordinator of Corporate Osusu Group”, whose activities are expected to serve as reference points for up and coming small scale entrepreneurs and retail traders on the need to be cautious when joining cooperative and thrift societies to avoid being duped.

Viewers will find answers to the following questions during the programme: How does Jeroboam (Osita Iheme) escape being scammed? Is there wisdom in taking the number one position in any osusu or thrift contribution? Are there registered cooperative societies? And how ancient is osusu contribution?

Osusu Contribution parades Kanayo O. Kanayo (Professor Johnbull), Etuk (Imeh Bishop); Olaniyi (Yomi Fash-Lanso); Mai Doya (Funky Mallam); Ufoma (Bimbo Akintola); and Jumoke (Bidemi Kosoko). Others are Flash (Stephen Odimgbe); Abadnego (Martins Nebo) and Samson (Ogus Baba).

Professor Johnbull comes up every Sunday on the DSTV Africa Magic Family and GOTV Channel 2 at 6.00 p.m., with repeat broadcast on Thursday at 9.30 p.m. on the cable TV channels. The programme will also be transmitted on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes at 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday, while Anambra Broadcasting Service will air it at 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday and Saturday.
