While the country received the shock of the passing on of one Nollywood fastest rising stars, Muna Obiekwe, reports have emerged of the late actor’s secret romance with singer Treasure Daniel even while still in a married relationship with two kids believed to be living.
According to the late actor’s doctor he had been battling with the kidney disease for six years, while still living in his house at Festac Town, Lagos.
Muna reportedly died in his car on his way to Avis hospital in Festac Town where he was pronounced dead at 3:30 pm on 18th January. His Doctors’ appointment was twice a week.
Muna who was a first cousin of Yule Edochie, which made him a member of the Pete Edochie’s family Obiekwe had been battling with kidney disease for a long time which he reportedly kept secret from his colleagues in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
His condition deteriorated in recent times, which eventually led to his death.
Obiekwe was reportedly rushed to the hospital on Sunday morning after he was found vomiting at home. Unfortunately he lost the battle and passed away in the hospital.
However, a controversial Twitter account had Monday dispelled rumours of Muna’s death in a twist to the development, even as it emerged that fellow actors in the Nollywood industry like Mike Ezuruonye, have also come up to confirm the death of one of Nollywood’s brightest young talents.
“I’m alive and well by His Grace,” the Twit by purported Muna read.
When the news of his death initially circulated, fans reacted negatively by saying the news was false and based on fabricated stories.
However some colleagues confirmed his death, Mike Ezuruonye revealed he received a call from Muna’s first cousin who confirmed the story and then, he demanded an apology from those who had earlier cursed him and advised that people should realize there are impersonators claiming to be some celebrities on twitter. Ini Edo showed deep concern for his wife and kids.
She said “His little kids and young wife, where do they go from here? RIP Muna, you will be missed”. Muna’s godmother Vera Kanu, blasted Ibinabo Fiberesima president of Actors Guild Nigeria (AGN) saying she has been partial in her administration “don’t mind that foolish Ibinabo, she never treats anyone equally she sees some of us as her enemy and doesn’t bother about our well being”.
However, Ibinabo replied saying “Yes he is truly dead, I have spoken to his wife but he was a private person, he never told us he had problems there was no way we could have helped.
Muna Obiekwe who is 36 years old was born in the year 1979 survived by his wife and kids. The actor has featured in dozens of movies including Men in Love, Songs of Sorrows, Wasted efforts, My best friend and so on. In the drama Men in Love dating back in 2010 he played a gay man, which was highly criticized as many alleged that it was popularizing the ideas of homosexuality in Nigeria.
He was said to have been a very reserved person who kept alot to himself, especially his private life from the press, hence shutting his colleagues away from his pain. He knew if some Nollywood people got to know about it, the press would also find out. He had insufficient money for the ailment but refused to beg to save Nollywood’s image, he in turn lost himself.
Vera Kanu, his godmother said he drank alot, saying he got the habit after losing his parents in a ghastly motor accident. Afterwards, he took solace in liquor but that never affected his job. Finally may his soul rest in peace, we also pray that the Holy Spirit comforts his wife and children, helping them to bear the loss.
Meanwhile, not much is known about the late actor until his death, as late Muna lived a secretive life. The disease wasn’t the only thing the late actor kept away from the public. Before now people didn’t know about his marital status until recently reports emerged that actress Treasure Daniel was a baby mama to the late actor.
Burial plans for the late actor as announced by the president, Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) are as follows: the candle night is scheduled to hold on 1st February 2015. The meeting point will be at Marsha Roundabout, Surulere. Procession shall be made from there to the Ojez Club, National Stadium, lagos. He declared the dress code to be white and also said that T-shirts will be provided at the venue. The deceased will be finally laid to rest on 3rd February 2015 in his home town Umudiok in Anambara state.
